Is your Operation Christmas Child shoebox packed and ready?
If you haven’t gotten it done yet, you still have time but just a couple of days! My boys and I will be packing ours tomorrow. This week is so busy, as we always serve at the Collection Center during Collection Week.
Today we’re serving from 11am-1pm at the Collection Center.
Volunteering with Operation Christmas Child is something we do every year. I view it as community service, so yes– school, if you want to call it that. It counts for us. Serving kids through OCC teaches my boys to think of the well-being of others and to take pride in spreading joy!
As you probably know, Go! Boxes are the red and green ones that are donated by private donors. They are promotional products specifically to encourage first-time shoebox packers. They are small and uniform, and are the BEST when it comes to ease of packing into cartons, and the number we can get in.
23 Go! Boxes fit into a carton, as illustrated above.
15 on bottom and 8 on the top row. It’s a tight fit but what an amazing blessing to be able to send that many at one time. Each carton costs $107 to ship, whether it contains 23 shoeboxes, or 6.
Yes, we had several with 5 and 6 in them because people (with best intentions!) used 3 gallon plastic containers rather than shoeboxes. $107 to send 6, or $107 to send 23. It’s not a question of which is the best use of the money.
Are you serving with OCC? Volunteer opportunities are avalable year round.
We will be serving four days during Collection Week and I’ll be posting photos on Instagram. Do you follow me there?
