The end of the school year isn’t crazy enough.
Finishing 9th and 11th grades just is too weak for me! I need more! Crazy! Chaos! Not really, but that’s what happened.
You see, I am a living piece of the Sandwich Generation.
Married, raising kids, and homeschooling of course. My father’s health has declined so much in the past several years that we needed to have him move up to live with us three years ago. Into our home with three sets of stairs.
You see where this is going, don’t you? We knew it wouldn’t last forever, and the time finally came when the stairs became too much of an issue for us to deny it any longer: We needed to move into a home more suitable for my Dad. That’s what we did two weeks ago.
Since the beginning of May, our household has been in chaos as we prepared to sell the house.
Then we found “the perfect house” and the chaos began anew as we packed and then moved in. Hence, my complete silence since Mother’s Day. It’s been insane.
I feel the need to apologize to anyone who has recently received a weird error message when trying to read a post on my blog. For some reason, my security software has decided regular readers are hackers. Or something. I still don’t have a perfect solution for this and it is quite frustrating. It’s not every post, and it’s not every time, and sometimes it only shows the error on mobile. I will get my tech guy on it this week though.
So how are you wrapping up your school year?
We are trying to “get done” but Algebra is kicking my rear so I’ve not been a huge help to my boys, both of whom are taking Algebra 1. We will most likely hire a weekly tutor over the summer so they can get through it and start Geometry in September. You know they are really looking forward to a Summer of Algebra. HA! As for me, I’ve been spending time teaching myself using Khan Academy. The boys use it too but I think they need a teacher who can skip the erroneous material and work on their problem areas with them.
I lost the answer key for their World History curriculum
in the move.
This isn’t the first time I’ve lost a key piece of curriculum, but it has been the most frustrating because I need to GRADE their chapter assignments before they take Unit Reviews. It helps to know what they don’t know, you know? After being missing for almost three weeks, we did finally find it yesterday. We were planning on being done with school last Friday but it looks like it will be as soon as they are done with history, either this week or next. Ah well.
We can make plans, but when life doesn’t go according to plan, we adjust.
