I wrote a post a couple of years ago about the Civil Air Patrol and homeschooling.

I recently discovered your great blog about the Homeschooler (and their parents) and the Civil Air Patrol Cadet program. I grew up in the 1950s-60s as the son of a Air Force pilot. We moved around a lot and wished that I would have been homeschooled. Long story short, not only was a CAP cadet in high school, I also re-joined CAP after retiring from the Boeing Company here in Washington State.
I now serve as the Director of Aerospace Education and assist the 28 Washington Squadrons with their education program. I just wanted to let you know that the National CAP headquarters has responded to the Homeschoolers by appointing a high level staff person to coordinate with homeschooling organizations. And please let me know if I can be of assistance to other homeschooling parents understand CAP, visit a local squadron, etc. And again, thanks for your article!
Carl Lindberg,
Director of Aerospace Education, Washington State Wing, CA
He had sent the message to me via email and Facebook, just in case, and I responded to him on Facebook.
He replied with more information. 🙂
My initial CAP squadron after I retired in the Seattle area must of had at least 30% of its 42 cadets come from homeschooling parents! And several parents also joined! It was truly a “Win-Win” effort!
Are you a CAP family?

Great article!
Our family can personally attest to the greatness of CAP for homeschoolers. CAP taught our student leadership skills, teamwork, public speaking, task management, outside of the box thinking, empathy towards others, patriotism, and a host of other “soft skills”.
Aerospace education, the opportunity to fly an airplane and glider, attend summer specialty camps and leadership conferences, obtain training and certification in emergency services and flight line management are activities that have contributed greatly to our student’s development into a well-rounded young adult.
Thank you CAP for the outstanding cadet program.
Thank you so much for your input, Carolyn!
I am the Public Affairs Officer for CAP’s South Dakota Wing. My commander has asked me to look into writing an article about homeschoolers who are members of CAP’s South Dakota Wing. Before I start, would you please send me your article about homeschooling and CAP? You can send it to me at bruce.kipp@sdcap.us
Hi Bruce: Thanks for your interest in my writing. My other post about CAP is in the first sentence of this post (the one you commented on), but for ease it is here https://themommaknows.com/civil-air-patrol-and-homeschooling/. I don’t mind being referenced for your article as long as it’s just a small excerpt and citation. I look forward to reading your article, so please forward it to me when you publish it. Thanks!
