“What do you mean, your kids don’t like Veggie Tales?!“
“No, they really don’t. Especially D2. He can’t stand them. I have no idea why.”
Or, I HAD no idea why. I recently came across this picture from when I took them to meet Bob and Larry at a local grocery store. I remembered how I had to pull them over to meet them. How I had to pry both of their faces out of my legs and stomach
to make them look so they could see them. They were SO BIG. And so scary. And my little boys were having nothing of it.
In this picture they both look relatively calm, but it’s only because they got to turn away from the big scary guys in costumes. D1 looks about to cry, panic, and run. D2 has a “What do you mean by smile??” look on his face.
Seriously. D2 didn’t willingly watch a single Veggie Tales video after this. He was 2. D1 was 3 1/2 and he didn’t start liking the veggies again until he was about 9 or 10, and then only just in passing.
My own boys are the first kids I’ve ever known who hated Veggie Tales. I thought I was the worst Christian mother ever. My boys watched Disney movies but no Veggies. Penguins, yes. Bob and Larry however, well they would have been happy to put them in the compost pile. All four of our older kids were totally hooked on Veggie Tales…. and all of them will still watch them if they’re on, or sing along with the songs when they hear them. Not these guys.
