Our year has started off slowly we are still easing back into things. This week consisted of a lot more phonics, spelling, and math review. We also took Tuesday and joined our homeschool group for a day at the county fair! We look forward to it every year. This year we ran into some employees and residents from the nursing home where I work. Apparently they had their group day scheduled then too.
We looked at all of the exhibits. Somehow I think we missed one building, because I don’t recall seeing quilts or all of the 4-H kid’s projects… but maybe I wasn’t paying attention? I don’t know. If you are on dial-up you may want to just give up right here, because this post is photo-heavy. So sorry!!
We ate fair food (a gyro for me, pizza and an elephant ear for the boys, and seasoned french fries for J) and petted a lot of animals. Especially goats. Did I mention that J is the goat whisperer? No kidding! Where ever we went, she had goats that wouldn’t leave her alone until she scratched their heads. And if she tried to stop, they would push their heads into her hand. I kid you not!

And one animal I have never seen at a fair, and probably never will again. There was a crowd gathered around this kid who was sitting in a chair in front of a pig corral. I went over, thinking he had piglet wrapped up in the towel on his lap. I never expected to see this!
This, my friends, is a 6 week old opossum, from a rescue. I didn’t even know we HAVE opossums in the Inland Northwest, never mind a RESCUE facility for them!
Thankfully we escaped even the threat or even BEGGING to spend money on overpriced rides and rip-off games because none of that opened until 3pm, and we left just before that.
Starting Monday I’m hoping to jump back into a more regular school day schedule, with more subjects added in and the bulk of our basics review finished.
How has your school year started out?
