“I don’t know” she said. I looked at the clock and quickly tried asking her a different way. “Do you want to use the toilet before we go down for dinner?” She just looked at me and grinned. She patted my hand and in her slow way said, “Well, have you seen the flowers?” I looked around her room, and saw no flowers.
Outside. Outside her window, she has a view of the flower beds.
“Oh, yes I see the flowers. They’re very pretty.”
“Yes,” she replied, her eyes sparkling, “I planted them yesterday.”
I knew she didn’t plant them, and that they were planted by the maintenance guys clear back in April, but I’m not one to argue with a 94-year old woman. I wanted to take her to the restroom so that I could get her down to the dining room and work on taking the rest of my residents there as well. She was in no hurry today. She wanted to talk with me.
