Since I’m not the one being homeschooled, today I handed the controls over to my two sons, D1 (11.5) and D2 (10). Together, they compiled this list of why they enjoy homeschooling.
1. We get to stay up late and sleep in. And start school really late!
2. Bike rides on lunch breaks.
3. Science co-op with friends. It’s the funnest day of the week.
4. Costco trips on Fridays. We get to skip most of our school!
5. We can drink coffee at school.
6. I get to annoy Mom all day long! (D2, my little Dennis the Menace… Sigh…)
7. We don’t have to write all of our stuff out because Mom lets us do it orally.
8. Karate is for PE.
9. School gets done earlier.
10. We get to do a lot of school work on the computer and internet.
And for those of you who have a problem with my kids drinking coffee, don’t judge. (It doesn’t happen every day.) At least we don’t buy cases of soda and drink that!

YES – Drink Coffee at school!!!!!!! Ok, I have to go fill my cup now!
Yes, coffee please! Rebecca, are your kids coffee junkies? I have a 10 year old who is… sigh. He would drink a LOT more coffee if I let him!
Fun list. Kids are so great when asked something and given free reign!
(And I've heard that caffeine really can stimulate a brain – especially in boys with ADD? No judging here! )
Thanks for sharing!

Lisa Marie: Oh my gosh you should have heard some of the replies– "recess", "lunch", "Vacation"… typical school kid replies and I had to keep asking "So what does that have to do with being homeschooled?" They finally came up with these but it took some poking!
Wonderful list. My kids would have to agree with number one too. And through their teen years this has been especially necessary. Thanks to your boys (and you) for sharing their thoughts.

Ginny, that's what I am hoping. I have given up stressing about when we begin school and just let things happen as we're able these days. Tight schedules don't work so well for us.
That's a cute list! Did you make those swords out of pool noodles?
Does coffee help with their attention span?

Pool noodles? No, the swords are retractable Star Wars swords from WalMart. I think they run around $10. At one point we had 6 of them! We're down to just a few now. This picture is 3 years old.
Ha! The coffee one makes me laugh. I was recently teased that I'm a "bad mom" because I let our kids drink coffee. I teased back with, "Sure! I give it to them in a bottle straight out of the womb! Who doesn't?!"

LOL Heidi! I don't usually "give" my boys coffee, but they both LOVE it (black!! UGH) and they do get themselves some from time to time. It's okay, like I said at least it's not soda. Coffee has less chemicals and sugar and the same amount of caffeine as soda does. My 10 year old would drink a LOT more coffee if I let him!
