I had an interesting conversation with my 6th grade dd J today. We were talking about what things are like for her at the Jr. High this year, as opposed to homeschooling. She loves school but she also misses homeschooling. I told her that I won’t PUSH, but that I wouldn’t be disappointed if she chose to come home for 7th grade next year. She said she has been thinking about it.
I know that she has in mind her other interests… volunteering at a vet’s office, visiting the horse down the road every day like she used to (now only has time on weekends), not getting up at 5:45 to catch a bus at 6:45, etc. She is probably one of the most self-motivated students I know, and I know that if she decides to come home she’ll do just as well as she always has. Right now she’s pulling A’s and B’s at school, has great friends who are trustworthy, and several are Christians.
I know she will continue to do very well academically and will strive to maintain her friendships too. I also know that she’s a real homebody, and that she misses hangin’ out with good ol’ Mom (LOL). I must say I sure miss having the girls around during the day. I’ve been teaching D1, doing some reading lessons/phonics/spelling and some math, but it’s just not the same as having the kids home and homeschooling as a family. Next year it’ll be just D1 and I for school, unless J decides to come home. I won’t push her, but I am praying she does decide to come back home for school.
