What a week! After our crazy weekend and week with sick kids, guess who else got sick? Yep, you got it. Me. Me who never gets sick. I never get anything the kids get… or if I do, I get the mildest case of anyone. Not so this time.
I feel like death.
Since the kids all have Strep, I figured I should take myself in to find out if we are sharing that bug. No such luck. I say that because if it was Strep, I’d be over 24 hours into my antibiotics by now and starting to feel better. I’m not. It’s not Strep, not a sinus infection (yet), not pneumonia. Just a hard core, old fashioned cold.
My doctor told me to do saline sinus rinses, so I got out my saline spray that I bought at the drug store, and used it. AWFUL. Horrible. Reading the ingredients, I see why. The stuff is all chemicals and preservatives, which are just more chemicals. It BURNS and it tastes nasty. And OH does it burn.
I found a remedy for the horrible sinus rinse spray. I made a mild saline solution with salt and warm water. Then I pulled the squirt top off of the bottle, dumped out the chemical waste, and rinsed the bottle out. I refilled the bottle with my homemade saline, re-plugged the top with the squirt nozzle thing, and voila. No more nasty chemicals to squirt up my nose.
Not that this is a whole lot more pleasant, but at least I’m not crying and gagging. And I can breathe.
Today was a fog. I have a headache, a fever, a stuffy/runny nose, and cough. I never did my hair or makeup, and took a 2 hour nap this afternoon. We had pancakes for dinner. I’m missing my hubby a lot right now and he won’t be home until the weekend. He’s sick like me and working too. We were quite the miserable pair on Skype tonight.
Dear Lord, please let this be the last of the illness for our family for a while. Thank you.
