In my life this week… I have been really focusing on watching what I eat. About 10 days ago I decided it was time to kick my sugar addiction, and while I’m at it I also cut out dairy and most flour, because I’m not sure which one causes me to have gut aches. The hardest part wasn’t giving up sugar, but giving up cheese and yogurt.
Also this week, today in fact, we have a daughter turning 18. Three girls down, one son down and two to go. It’s amazing to me how quickly time just flies. Days become years and we look back and wonder what in the world happened to our little girls?

Taken August 2000. How did these girls grow up so fast!?
In our homeschool this week… We are trying to figure out how swim team practices fit into our school days. The boys have swimming at 7:30am three mornings a week. It’s been okay but we all find ourselves dozing off around 2:00 on swimming days. We are also fully into trying out Time4Learning again, and I have yet to actually sit down and schedule them anything. We have been going on time spent (30 min. per topic) and they are still working on their Teaching Textbooks Math as well. I am still trying to figure out whether the math in T4L will be sufficient for them for next school year
Places we’re going and people we’re seeing… Today is also our son’s engagement party. We get to hang out with friends, who just happen to be the parents of G’s fiancee, E. The invitation said it’s a costume party but I highly doubt (HIGHLY) that anyone will talk my husband into a costume. Or her stepdad either, for that matter. I’m sure the guys will have fun poking fun at those who do dress up.
My favorite thing this week was… the sweet way my son prayed the other day. Touched my heart.
Questions/thoughts I have… How can we parent our remaining two kids better than the first four? We have learned from our mistakes and from our strengths. Now we need to really make use of the knowledge.
Things I’m working on… Spring cleaning. My inlaws gave us an old, not so great vacuum cleaner. It is pretty awful on carpets BUT it has on board tools, a hose, and a crevice tool and I have needed that for a long time! I’ve been doing room perimeters and sucking up spider condos up in the corners with it. We may be getting ready to put the house on the market. We’re leaning that way.
I’m reading… Made to Crave by Lysa TerKeurst

Discover WonderMaps by Bright Ideas Press and introduce your kids to a new way to learn geography!

Not eating sugar is tough! Made to Crave is on my to be read pile. We stopped eating dairy, for the most part, about 18 months ago. There are so many great milk alternatives – even for yogurt! – out there that we haven't missed it at all.
We are working on kicking out the sugar as well. I'm trying to get completely away from processed foods as much as possible and cooking/making it at home. It's interesting! Your daughter is beautiful and I wish her a happy birthday! Congrats to your son! Looks like you're doing a wonderful job!

Good for your giving up sugar. For me that's really hard — I haven't given it up 100%, but I'm close.
Your daughter is beautiful. I know you're proud.

Mary, I haven't given it up 100% either. I know there is sugar in my almond milk, among other things. I'm using honey for tea and oatmeal too. But I'm not eating sugary things, no ice cream (!!! this is hard!) no packaged cereals, etc. I switched our ketchup to Hunt's because it's the only one that doesn't use HFCF. Little changes here and there make a difference.
And thank you!
Happy Birthday to your daughter! She is absolutely beautiful by the way!
I'm just starting the Made to Crave Study also. She is an amazing and inspiring woman! I think I'm going to start posting about what I'm learning on my weight loss blog http://www.OneRollataTime.com!
