HSMJ: August 17, 2012 Writing and Planning and Allume!

In my life this week… I have been SO busy! And I haven’t hardly left my computer at all either! I don’t like weeks like this, but it is unavoidable right now. I have exciting news! But not yet. ;)

In our homeschool this week… The books are coming in! It’s like Christmas! Well, for me it is anyway. I made a trip up to The Homeschool Bookshop and found Winston Grammar and English From the Roots Up for good prices too. We are SO fortunate to have a homeschool consignment shop here!! Eastern WA or North Idaho moms, if you haven’t been there, GO! For the rest of you, we’re waiting for them to branch into online selling. Right now it’s local only. They have a huge selection too!

This week also brings the swim team season to a close. This morning the boys have their final practice, and tonight we have a potluck party with the families from the team. And tomorrow? Tomorrow is the Championship meet. I’m not quite sure what that means, because no one is ever declared “The Winner” at these meets. Their times are just added to the computer and spit out on next week’s heat sheets. But tomorrow is their last chance to better their times. No matter how they do, I am so proud of them! Both my guys have come a long way and they are much better swimmers for it.

Helpful homeschooling tips or advice to share… Sometimes when you are having trouble finding the curriculum you need at an affordable price, you may be blessed with a friend who will do a book swap with you for the school year. I did!

I am inspired by… a kid named Garrett, 19 years old, who two years ago when his family decided to move from Eastern WA back to the Bullhead Reservation in South Dakota, he decided it was time that the students there learned who Christ was. He’s now called Preacher Man by most of the people there, and the Lord is moving through him and touching so many people   there. He keeps us updated on Facebook and it’s so awesome to hear.

Places we’re going and people we’re seeing… Silverwood Theme Park this Sunday! And do you know how freeing it is to do this on a Sunday? I mean really, it’s weird for me, but we are not tied in any way to a church right now and I love it. Yes, we have been attending a church, and we really like it there… but we don’t have any serving duties there at this point. We are just loving receiving from the Lord. And we’re also loving not being married to the building. *grin*  D1′s birthday was the first week of  August, and the boys’ best friends were on a 2 week camping trip, so he didn’t have any friends over for his birthday. We promised him a trip to Silverwood (with their friends’ family), and since we have to use their free passes from Reading is the Ticket, we can’t go on Saturday. Sunday it is. We are expecting a high of 100* so if you think about me, pray for me. I don’t do heat. Ugh.

Allume Flight Itinerary

My favorite thing this week was… Getting my plane ticket for Allume! If you’re not a blogger I know you don’t know what I’m so excited about, but let me just say this: It’s like a big girlfriend party with an awesome women’s retreat/conference mixed in. This will be my third year attending and I am SO ready.

Things I’m working on… Lesson planning… blog planning… post writing… menu planning…

I’m reading… no books this week, just some blog posts and a lot of my own writing! I still have all my books in progress, I just haven’t touched them.

I’m cooking… Shredded Beef Enchiladas. The roast will be in the crock pot all day and I cannot WAIT to see how these come out!

I’m praying for… Our homeschool year. Are you praying for yours?

Jessy, you live MUCH closer to the Allume Conference than I do! I'm flying all the way from Washington State. Allume is in Harrisburg, PA. (That's 12 hours of airplanes and airports right there, each way.) And it's TOTALLY WORTH IT. :)
