HS Misfit “Awards”

When I saw the pingback in my comments, I wasn’t sure what it was. I clicked over and landed on Not-So-Superwoman’s site.  Apparently she started a yearly award for “Homeschool Misfits”. It’s sort of a silly take on the Homeschool Blog Awards that The Post does every year.  And apparently I was nominated for a Homeschool Misfit Award in “The Blabber” category.  I’m not sure whether to laugh or be insulted.

I usually just roll with whatever and let things slide off my back, but I don’t know how to take this.  I am NOT a blabber by her definition. I am very careful about what I share regarding my family! I won’t throw my kids under the bus just for a post. Never.

I get that it’s just supposed to be a tongue in cheek, sort of snarky take on the HSB Awards. It’s supposed to be funny. It’s just not funny to me. Some of the categories ARE funny! The “Perfect Procrastinator” and “Meme Forgotten” both could have described me, and I would laugh. Seriously! But I don’t. I won’t. I love my family too much to embarrass them for readers. I know a couple others who were nominated in this category too who DON’T do this either. Gimme a break. I am asking her to take my blog off of the list.

Update:  Lori wrote an explanation clarifying how the Misfit Awards began. I get it. I really do. The nom just didn’t fit me.

Dawn I contacted her and got my name down. Nominated for same category. NEVER in a million years would I blog / post at the expense of my family JUST to have a post. And to put blogging and winning (any crack pot award) above my family …

Why not something "fun" like most well read, best crafter, science guru – something – anything other than making us look ridiculous to folks who do not know us (or our business partnerships questioning our character) and/or insulting us in the fact that our blogs are not content worthy so we resort to hurting our family.

I, too, would never hurt my children nor my husband that way – EVER !

What happened to "hey I think you're a great blogger / homeschooler". period – I'd rather not be labelled by people who do not know my heart and obviously throw around this "fun" word at my/your expense.

You're far better than some rambling dummy Dawn !!

So are YOU Stef! I also emailed her and asked to be taken off the list, and also told her YOUR BLOG doesn't fit either. I get the tongue in cheek thing, I do. That category just isn't funny, along with a couple of others.

Or even, "most likely to oversleep and start school late… " that would fit me to a T. ;) Fun stuff though, has to be fun stuff.

I was a bit curious when I saw the awards, and I have to say that I was very appreciate to NOT see my blogs under any of the categories.

I am sorry you took this the wrong way, I think they are great! I was nominated and laughed out loud at the descriptions. They are meant for fun. To each his own, right?

I totally get the silliness of them– I DO. But that category… it's just not … it's not me and I can't keep my name there. Lori was very nice about removing me, and that's great. Nothing against her at all, because I DO get it. As my Mom always used to say though, it's only "fun" if everyone is laughing.

Oh, wow! I suppose it's meant to be humorous, but something humor can go too far! So sorry to both of you! I'm glad that your blogs were taken down!

I just hope that the ugly comments about it stop because there are quite a few other people who enjoy them. I would hate for ugly things to be said about the people that choose to participate and keep their names involved. I would also hate to see the wonderful lady who is hosting these awards to be talked bad about. That would not be a good reflection on homeschooling or on Christ.

When I see the HSB awards, I always feel like I'm back in high school with not a chance of making the "popular" list. Does it really matter who gets the most votes?

I love the Misfit Awards for the reminder not to take myself too seriously. I'm sorry you got blindsided by them.

You DO realize that Lori had NOTHING to do with your nominations for the awards, right? Those came from readers of your blogs.

I, personally am honored that someone thought enough of me to nominate me for a category. It made me laugh and I really needed a laugh that day.

Brenda: YES of course I know that! I have nothing against her at all. She sometimes links up with my ABC meme. I just don't feel like I fit the category and so I asked to be removed. Nothing more. What I know of Lori is that she's very nice, and she was understanding with my request.

I think, just for the sake of not continuing any type of conversation that may get snarky, I am going to close comments on this post. Snarky isn't what I do.
