There’s just something about weekends that destroys my routine. This particular weekend, I worked Sat/Sun evenings from 2-10:30. I hadn’t gotten all of my reading done on Saturday to start with, and it just snowballed from there. I took my iTouch to work with me and I did get in a little Bible reading on my breaks, but not much. Sunday too, I even kept my iTouch in my pocket so I could read in the elevator or bathroom. Don’t laugh- Ya do whatcha gotta do! But I am still on Day 72.
Today is Monday. This means back to homeschooling for my kiddos and I, and back to some semblance of a routine. Of course, with the time change my brain still thinks it’s an hour ago, and I got up late too, so I’ve already eaten into my Bible reading time. I will get as much done as I possibly can today! Hopefully I can get back on track before I go to bed tonight.
Some interesting things I have noticed about Mark, as opposed to Matthew: They both discuss the same situations, from totally different perspectives. Mark even skips some things that Matthew made mention of. This is probably because Mark was either not right there, or did not feel the need to share them in his own writings. Mark is more direct than Matthew. I like that.
Another correlation I am seeing, which I never noticed before is between the OT and the NT. All of the frustration God had with the Israelites all through the OT was so understandable. They lacked faith, continued to do stupid things, and God would bring them back with rebuke and discipline, and restore them. Jesus also, I notice clearly now, had many of the same struggles with his own disciples. Not to the extent that God did before, as there wasn’t any golden calves or anything like that…. But even Christ himself had to continually say “Why do you have so little faith?” and once again would show Himself in power, to the point where the disciples wondered who he was. And again Jesus would tell them Who he is and what was going to happen… and STILL they didn’t get it.
I am so much like that! The Lord will show me, through His Word and prayer, Who he is. He leads me by the hand and says “Here, take this next step”, and I say “But Lord, I’m afraid! What if…” And again He has to show me Who he is and what He did. And I am so thankful.
I am a child of the Most High God. I am a sinner saved only by the loving grace of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. I am a daughter of the King. My Facebook profile, under Religion, says “Jesus Christ saved my life”. It could say “Christian” or “Christian- Assemblies of God” or “Christian- Pentecostal”, but why? I was a messed up teenager, dealt with severe depression all through my adolescence and into adulthood. I made a lot of really horrid choices as a teen without Christ.
When I gave my life to Jesus, at the age of 23, as a young mom and in my second marriage, He literally saved my life. I would not be here if it wasn’t for what Christ did for me. We can never forget that. What He did for us IS the most important thing. Matthew and now Mark both illustrate our need, even through their recordings of disciples who just didn’t totally ‘get it’ until the day came that they had no choice but to put it all into perspective. And we should all be SO THANKFUL.

I loved reading your update! Two days behind is easy to catch up on! I’ve gotten 5-7 days behind numerous times & have caught up. I struggle with the weekends, too. You are not alone! Just think that in two weeks you WILL have read the entire Bible!!!

Thanks! Yes, I can catch up. I get behind almost every weekend! Last weekend I worked, weekend before last I was out of town at a conference Thurs-Sat. night, weekend before that I worked both evenings. This is the norm but I wish it weren’t! And you are SO RIGHT. In two weeks I will have read the ENTIRE BIBLE from cover to cover. That fact just blows my mind but I am SO GLAD that I took this on!
I so totally agree!! Weekends are terrible for the routine!! Don’t feel bad though – I’m further behind than you are, even after reading for over two hours last night! I WILL catch up though!

Mandy: I so struggle with a lack of routine. If I have it, I’m fine. If not, I’m sunk! When we are all done with this B90Days challenge I am going to be sure to continue to make my morning devotional times a priority. I’m actually really looking forward to delving deeper into a lot of things that have come up through the daily readings.
Hi Dawn! Thanks for visiting me and commenting! I love your post for today! I’ll be back to read more!
Thank you so much for the Beth Moore book of Daniel Bible study recommendation! I think I need something deep and in depth after we’ve done this. I am so excited for the next two weeks and to be able to say I’ve read the Bible!

I love reading it on my iPod too. I always have it handy so it’s nice when you have a couple of minutes to spare, to pick it up and read. They need a Bible in 90 Days app! LOL

Nicole: YouVersion has a B90Days app for iPod!! The only drawback is you can only get to the plan when you’re online. You can use the offline Bible translations though! This is what I use.
