I finished my Day 30 reading today, and I am happy to say that I am on schedule! Yes, I’ve gotten behind a couple of times. Once, just about 7 chapters, and another time, a whole day’s worth of reading… but I am caught up and hope to continue that way!
We started in 1 Chronicles on Day 29, and I have to tell you, it was SO (yawn) exciting (yawn) to read all of those geneaologies.
I didn’t read them all, because I am a very good skimmer when it comes to things like this. What I did do was search for wives’, mothers’, sisters’, and daughters’ names. At first I was surprised at how few women are listed, but by the end of the chronology, I found myself surprised that they were mentioned at all. I haven’t heard of very many of the women who were mentioned, and although I haven’t yet read the entire Bible, I wonder if I will encounter those names again.
I posted a few questions from Day 30 on the Mom’s Toolbox BlogFrog Community. Please, pop on over and join in the discussion!
Some random thoughts about the reading thus far:
- I can’t believe I’ve read 1/3 of the Bible in a month!
- As the late Rich Mullins sang, “When I go, I want to go out like Elijah.” SO COOL! He was just taken straight to Heaven by a fiery chariot. How awesome was that for Elisha to witness, and then to receive a double portion of the Spirit of God too. WOW.
- King Ahaz (2Kings 16:10-18) changed all of the temple procedures for the burnt offerings, and re-arranged the altars and other sacred furnishings in the temple.
- Did the man NOT believe God was serious when he gave such specific instructions? And why Didn’t God strike him dead on the spot? I think if I were God, I would have. I’m just sayin’.
- I love the Word of God. I used to say that before, and at times it has been such a huge part of my life, but I can honestly say that I LOVE God’s Word! I love this time in it every day, even if sometimes I feel like I’m cramming because there is so much reading… still I love it. I plan to begin each new year the same way.
Yes, I will do this again, in 2011, and 2012, etc. and hopefully I will get my family to join me the next time around. This has been a wonderfully rich, awesome thing to take on!

Just posted my update too. I was wondering the same thing about Ahaz.
And did the same with all the ladies in the line-up.
1/3 done ~ woo hoo!!
I’m thinking that when this is done I want to read again, but do it chronologically with a different version, and maybe do it in 6 months or so.
I answered some of your questions over in the blogfrog community with my thoughts…I am excited as well to be 1/3 of way through and God is showing me so many things I had never noticed before…really neat opportunity!
