When we first began our homeschooling journey 12 years ago, this plastic cart contained all of our school supplies, and curriculum. My kids were little, then 1st and 2nd plus I had a 4 year old, so we didn’t need much storage. This was a splurge, from Costco, and when I brought it home my husband said “What do you need that ugly thing for?” He’s been trying to force me to get rid of it ever since! The trouble is, it has been in constant use for the entire 12 years!
Even when I put the kids in school temporarily, there were still school supplies, flash cards, notebooks and dozens of other necessities contained within the cheesy plastic drawers. But now it’s been long enough. I just re-arranged my living room and am preparing to swap my computer things into the dining room, and will move my dining room table to the end of the living room nearest the kitchen. (Hey, it’ll work…) And now this ugly plastic cart, which IS an eyesore, must go. The trouble is, as always, I still NEED something similar to keep our school supplies in!
What would YOU replace it with? Please, help me wean myself from ugly plastic in the public rooms of my home. Post links to pictures too please, because I am a very visual person and have trouble figuring out what people describe. Thanks!

Actually I would not replace it I would make it prettier.
1) paint the white supports with Krylon (available in the Walmart or any hardware store paint dept in a wide array of colors & textures)
2) Cover the clear plastic fronts (and sides if visible) with a fabric. You can hot glue it on very easily. Or you can use leftover wallpaper. The posiblities are endless.
3) Then make some pretty tags on your computer for the fronts.
easy, cheap(expecially if you have scraps of stuff around the house) and you can match whatever your decor is! You can really personalize it.
Well since none of the bigger people in my house know how to hang up a coat, I put the plastic cart in the coat closet for the time being. After Christmas I’ll figure out what to do with it!
That’s a tough one…maybe a cabinet with doors, a small armoire or maybe a bookshelf with curtains? It’s hard, when something is truly functional you love it no matter what it looks like-and it’s not that bad
