Since I feel like I’ve been shorting you, I thought I would share some of my mini-posts from our discussion on De-Cluttering December at The Homeschool Lounge:
Dec. 4th
Today I organized my linen closet & school cabinet (took the school stuff OUT of the linen closet!). I sorted all of it into “I need it”, “Sell”, and “Donate”. I moved a bookshelf from my daughter’s room, where it doesn’t get used, into my sons’ room, and transferred ALL of their books on to that (and I still have shelf space because I purged two boxes of books for donation!)
I fit all my school curriculum back into the big pantry/cabinet I have in my garage. I haven’t been able to fit all my stuff in that cabinet in at LEAST five years! I also finished organizing my 15yo daughter’s room today (she is currently out of state). Then I took a whole TRUNKLOAD of stuff to the mission thrift store! This makes FIVE loads of stuff I’ve taken to donate!! It feels good!
I’m trying really hard to be ruthless, to really look at what we have and make a decision. If we don’t NEED it, as in we’re currently putting it to use, then I don’t need to keep it. I also moved all of our family games, which were scattered all over the house in various, cubbies, closets, and other random places, into some of the shelf space that my curriculum freed up in the linen closet. (My linen closet has double folding doors, and 5 shelves which are 8′ long…. LOTS of room!) Now we have a designated Game Storage area. I love it!
Which also led me to realize that I need to buy a few new decks of cards, and replace a few beloved games which have missing pieces. Since it’s that time of year, games are on sale everywhere and I’ll get stocked back up. And I taught my 9yo son how to play Backgammon today.
