Winding Down the Term

weekly wrap-up This week’s wrap-up has been brought to you courtesy of azithromycin and strawberry cough drops.

Yes, I finally found out what I had.  Read about that HERE.  Quite the little adventure it was, especially for the doctor. So now I’m done with the antibiotics and my throat doesn’t hurt. I still have a very hoarse voice and an obnoxious cough that’s hanging on, and on, and on…

My boys are doing so great!  I am just thrilled and proud of their progress. They really are “getting it”. We haven’t had any major things that either boy has gotten stuck on or struggled with.  We haven’t touched our lapbooks this week (Eeek!) but I did finally get on Google Images and track down pictures for 8 timeline figures, and we put them in the timeline book.  We haven’t been so good about keeping up with that this year.  I need to get these little figures AHEAD of time like I did last year…. And I will, in December while we’re on our break.  We also haven’t touched our science books…. at all.  We are still at the point where we’re supposed to make gliders out of straws and putty.  Yeah I know that was from week 3 of school.  We should be much further ahead on this. Sigh.  We just haven’t had time.  Having a teenager who comes home before lunch kind of throws us off (a lot) and if I don’t get everything we need to do, DONE by 1pm then it gets pushed aside. Again. :-P   We will get back into our science. I want to finish the flight unit before we break for December, so we will get on that this coming week.  Only less than 2 weeks to go!

Saturday the kids and I went to see Schoolhouse Rock, put on by our local Christian Youth Theater. It was fantastic! Although I do believe that over all, the  ADULTS in the audience enjoyed it much more than the KIDS did. I’m sure that has to do entirely with the fact that we all grew up learning math, history, grammar, and lots of other things from Schoolhouse Rock. I can credit Schoolhouse Rock with teaching me MUCH more than the elementary schools did for me in the 1970′s. And since last Saturday I have had The Tale of Mr. Morton running through my head… every day…. ever since.

Sunday we were invited over to visit friends and see their new chicks.  We have purchased farm fresh eggs from J, their 14 year old son, for the past year and a half.  Well recently he decided his chickens were laying less and costing him more, so he sold them and bought 120 new chicks, in a rainbow of colors and breeds!  They are all very cute, and in about six months we will again be able to get fresh eggs from this awesome, smart, homeschooled kid who has a passion for chickens. =)  Our boys thought the chicks were great, and asked lots of questions. We also got to have some of their homemade pie and ice cream, which is a not-to-miss treat! These friends make the very best pie we have ever had.  All in all it was a very nice evening.

The boys finished the first session of Swimming lessons on Thursday, and got their progress reports. Both were recommended to continue in the same classes, so we are doing that. We will continue swimming lessons through probably the end of the school year. They have both made a lot of progress already.

Our break.  Yes, that’s coming up rapidly. I did go through our history books and we are actually on schedule with that, at least.  I can’t carry on conversation or read out loud, so I am relying on audio books for Bible & history, and thankfully I two both books we are using, on audio!  The other one has such short chapters (half a page) that I can manage with cough drops.  We’ll finish up Egypt & the lapbook, and finish up Flight. I am wrapping up this last couple of weeks in preparation for the break, and I am SO looking forward to having a month off.
