Today was shaping up to be any other grocery shopping day. Any other grocery day that is, until I discovered my wallet missing from my purse. I was just starting to make dinner, and remembered I need to order tickets to “School House Rock”, CYT’s show coming up in a couple of weeks. I got on their website and pulled out my purse…. to find no wallet inside. After a search of the house and my van, we found nothing. Then I started mentally retracing my steps. The last time I know for sure that I had it, I was buying supplies for the cafe just before youth group. That was around 5:45. Then I put my purse on the shelf under the counter, and it stayed there for the next hour and a half while the cafe was running. I had two students working with me, both girls whom I trust, but we also had around 130 students attending and several visiting college-age folks as well.
Inconvenience is frustrating! It was just a wallet, but what do we put in a typical wallet? I can tell you that my 2 debit cards, driver’s license, library cards, and Costco card are in mine. Also my wallet size copy of my NAC license, my Subway card (hey that’s important too!), and my kid’s medical cards. There was a $50 in it, a birthday gift from my Dad that I was planning on using to purchase the new Adobe Photoshop Elements 8 program when it comes out on the 23rd. I had it set aside just for that. I don’t usually keep money in the wallet because I have a changepurse and it’s just easier that way. But suffice it to say that some teenager stole everything I NEED to go grocery shopping today!!!
Inconvenience usually causes a change of direction. Today, instead of just heading out the door with the kids to do our shopping, I have a few things to keep in mind. I will be driving without proof of a license, going to the bank ATM with my husband’s debit card because I can’t go through the drive through with no ID. I reported the debit cards stolen yesterday, so they have already been cancelled. I need to call our Identity Theft Protection folks and let them know too. Instead of going shopping first thing, I get to go wait at DMV with two boys for an unknown amount of time, while I get my license replaced.
And I’m counting on Jesus today for strength and patience, because I am pretty sure it’s going to be one of those days.

Guess I better update this, seeing as how it’s been read lately. I found my wallet, totally intact with everything in it.
My own forgetfulness and nothing more.
