I got my new laser printer!! Yes, yes I did. It actually showed up on Saturday, but besides taking it out of the box, I didn’t have time to do anything with it until late last night. It took me a few hours (YES HOURS) to get it set up! I have a factory reconditioned Brother HL-5250DN, and it is supposed to be a network printer. “Network”, to me, means I can print wirelessly, right? Well maybe IT can but I haven’t figured out how to do it! I did finally get it working via USB cable, and for now that’s okay. (Ties my laptop down, but it works.)
After I finally got it working, I got down to the business I purchased it for: Printing E-books! I think I wasted around 30 sheets of paper, trying out all these different configurations to make the books print the way I need them to. What I need is each page to have 2 book pages, side by side, and printed on both sides of the paper. This printer has auto duplex… I wouldn’t have bought it if it didn’t! It makes life a whole lot easier. So around 10:00 last night I succeeded in printing pages 1-11 of Among The Farm-Yard People, and it printed correctly. Then I went to bed. Okay, if you know me you know I didn’t go to bed. My hubby was already in bed and I went downstairs and played a ‘stupid game’– Zuma– on the other computer until 11:00. THEN I went to bed.
First thing this morning I brought up Among the Farm-Yard People again, set it up, and hit PRINT. Right now, beside me, I have a fully printed book, read to be cut and bound by Staples. Because, after purchasing the printer, a comb-binding machine is at the top of the waiting list presently.
So, are you wondering what the fuss is about? What ABOUT E-Books?
HOW TO PRINT AN E-BOOK USING A BROTHER DUPLEX PRINTER:
These are the printer settings I found, through trial and error, produce books.
Click Print, and select your Brother printer. Make sure AUTO ROTATE AND CENTER is checked.
Click Properties
Select LETTER SIZE
Select Multiple Page: 2 IN 1
Select Page Order: LEFT TO RIGHT
Select Page Orientation: PORTRAIT
Select Duplex/Booklet: BOOKLET
Click Advanced Tab
Select the second icon that shows two pages A-B
Verify DUPLEX, USE DUPLEX UNIT, and BOOKLET PRINTING are all checked.
Check FLIP ON LEFT EDGE and select BINDING OFFSET 0.0
(That last one may not be hugely important, just don’t add any space there or your pages will be very offset! It just depends on how you plan to bind them.)
That’s it. It took me 2 hours to get it right, but it works, and I don’t have FinePrint’s watermark across every single page.
Oh and by the way, it took about five minutes to print all 144 pages of my book, on 36 sheets of paper. OH YEAH!
And if you can hold my hand through making this thing print wirelessly, I would be ever so grateful!!!

Very cool. I am jealous. I would love to print an e-book. But, I have an archaic printer so I just print off the pages I need. I can’t help you with the network thing. I tried and failed with that over here.
I figured it would be as easy as setting up my HP printer for wireless, but it’s NOT. The manual doesn’t even specify WIRELESS, it just says NETWORK. I thought they were the same thing, but apparently they aren’t. And my husband calls me a computer nerd. LOL!
Oh Thank You so much! my printer just came in today I have it all set up but didn’t know how to print books…so I thought well I’ google it maybe someone has instructions…yes! Thank You, oh I said that didn’t I. YOu saved my hours of work.
I really can’t help you with the wireless thing, however It’s my understanding that NETWORK mean more than one computer as in a small buisness.
What about the the resolution setting? it is set on 600 but I wondering is 300 would work…you know save on the toner and get more for your buck LOL!
