Checking in

I haven’t had any time online lately at all. Last week, we had family stuff come up that necessitated a quick out of state trip to my Dad’s, then quickly back here for school. I’m so blessed to have inlaws that are so great with the kids! We dashed out of here early Sunday morning, and my inlaws came over at 8am and took the kids to church, then back to their house until nearly bedtime. Then they brought them home just before bedtime, and stayed with them here. We got home Tuesday afternoon, and all was well at home. It’s such a load off of our minds to know that we don’t have to worry about them at all.

Since we got back, school has been the main past time. I’m slowly getting back into the swing of things and developing a daily routine that will work for the kids and I. Today was nice, as the boys went to their classes for the day and J and I were able to sit down and work through some tough math concepts, lay out her assignments for the week in her planner, and I actually got the living room vacuumed! :) Tomorrow J will be at classes in the morning and the boys and I will begin to work on our daily routine together also. It’s the trying to keep the big kid/little kids thing straight that I’m struggling with right now. If anyone has pointers, I’d be glad to hear them.

The boys are doing phonics/spelling every day, and math every day. I want to do history about three days a week with them, but last week that didn’t happen. I need to be proactive and get my lesson plans at least loosely laid out in advance… that will help! We’re going to read Mummies in the Morning and work on some History Pockets activities. I need to copy the Egypt pocket activities so we can get started. J is pretty independent, as long as she knows what to do. I work one on one with her in math off & on, plus she has the DIVE CD too. Grammar, vocabulary, and history are pretty self-explanatory for her and we just discuss her reading material in history.

I’ll post our curriculum for the year on my sidebar, like I did last year. I hope everyone else is getting their routines down. I know that starting a new year is always a struggle for me, until I get a workable routine in place.
